When you have a dog, there are hundreds of things you have to do. From grooming to training, there can be so many things on your doggie to-do list that some may slip your mind. One thing that many people forget to do is license their pup. There are so many pros to licensing that many dog owners don’t even realize. We’ll give you all the info you need on why it’s important to get your dog licensed. We’ll also let you know the details on how to do it in Montgomery County!

Law

While most people may not realize it, it’s usually mandatory that dogs be licensed in most states. If you get caught, the consequences of not following the law is a big fine. Additionally, you must renew your dog’s license annually. The fine can be up to $300 in PA, which is so much more than getting the license. So you might as well just do it!

Returning Your Pup

Sometimes things happen and your dog can get lost. If your dog does go missing and they have a license, they are much more likely to get back to you. The tag that your dog wears as their license can help shelters or animal control find their owner. On top of that, animal shelters will keep dogs that are licensed longer than others. You cannot license your dog without all the right vaccinations, so it also shows people that your dog is properly vaccinated. If anyone who finds your dog knows they are healthy, they will probably be more likely to help.

Helping Local Shelters

The fee that is required for licensing actually goes to help local shelters and animal control. The money supports the work they do and keeps them up and running. When you pay to license your dog, you’re helping any strays in your local area stay safe.
