Celebrating National Dog Day

Posted Aug 18, 2022 in Fun Dog Stuff

Do you ever wish there was a day dedicated to how much you love dogs? Well, there is! Mark your calanders because Friday, August 26th is National Dog Day!

Origin of National Dog Day

National Dog Day was created by National Dog Day Foundation to promote their mission of enouraging the adoption of resuce dogs and supporting local pet shelters all over the country. There motto is “Saving 10,000 dogs – one day at a time” and they have gone above and beyond their motto. Since its origination in 2004, this foundation has saved the lives of more than 100,000 four-legged friends and has even expanded its reach internationally to the UK, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, and our neighbors to the north, Canada!

Every year, big stores like Petco, Petsmart, and Petland take part by offering special deals on certain items. And national chain restaurants offer yummy dog treats to Fido. Local businesses often get in on the fun too by offering their own deals or giveaways!

How to Celebrate National Dog Day

Enjoying this holiday with your pup is super easy! Try some of these things to show your pup how much you care!

Take Fido on an Extra Long Walk

If your dog loves spending time outside with you, treat them to a special long walk in a new area. Dogs love to explore the sights, sounds, and smells of a new trail so branch out with your pooch!

Get Them a New Toy

Who doesn’t love a new toy? To make sure your pup has the best day ever, get them or brand new ball or chew toy. Better yet, take them to the pet store with you so they can sniff out a new toy for themselves and you can take part in the special discounts!

Have a Dog Party

If you have a social dog, a dog party might be the best way to show your dog some extra love! Invite over some of your pup’s best dog pals for a run in your yard or a group walk! Or, if your pup wants to make some new friends, head down to your local dog park and let Fido find some new friends.

Even by celebrating with a few extra pets, your dog will surely enjoy the extra love and attention. Happy National Dog Day!
