Some dog breeds are more common than others; there’s gotta be more than just golden doodles all over the dog park, right? The American Kennel Club recognizes about 199 breeds of pups with a variety of sizes, colors, heritages, and temperaments! You’d have a high number if you counted how many labs or bulldogs you see on a walk around the block, but this list covers the rare furry friends; if you have any of these breeds at home, hug them extra tight for being unique!
Originating from various African countries, Azawakh are intelligent sighthounds with a knack for being loyal companions. Because of their long legs and lean stature, these pups can run extremely fast and love a game of chase!
These curly-coat friends are known for their energetic, explorative personalities! Bedlington Terriers originate from England and love to be cuddly companions with their favorite humans.
Biewer Terriers are one of the most lovey-dovey breeds out there! These miniature fluff balls love spending time with their owners or other pets; they are highly friendly and loyal to their human counterparts.
Chinooks are the perfect family dog; these affectionate working dogs relish working in the fields during the day and snuggling up on the couch at night! This breed is well known for its calm temperaments with children and other pets.
Those dogs with the funny mohawks? Cesky Terriers are excellent walking buddies or playmates for little kids! These furry friends are very protective of their humans, making them another good breed for families with children. Unfortunately, there are only about 600 Cesky Terriers left in the US.
